This is a nice juicy 8" x 8" oil on canvas. It's a good oversize for a small subject. This is also the final painting of the series of 6.

Apples In A Bowl

Just Finished: Green Apples In a Bowl:Sold

Catchy title I know.... I'm whistling "Strangers In The Night" as I sit here wondering what to call this painting and that doesn't help a bit. I'll come up with something better. I hope.

Funny thing. I had this drying in a sunny window yesterday and the light was hitting it so that there was a distinct highlight that I had not painted in. I had to cast a shadow to be sure. I liked it so much I took a picture and then painted in the additional highlight today.

Washed

This is the second Granny Smith Apple painting finished. It's of three apples that have been washed and are sitting on a kitchen towel waiting for the next part of their journey to pie.



The paintings have been slow going as I've been doing custom work in between. It's a nice project to return to when I have an hour to spare.



There is something homey about kitchen towels for me. I suppose we each have a memory or a place in our home that feels comforting. For me it's the kitchen. When I want to unwind I do some project in the kitchen no matter how mundane. Fixing dinner can be very relaxing to me.

These will all be nice individually or as several small groupings, or even as a large grouping. Green is a calming color.

Ode To Granny Smith

I'm doing a small series of 6 paintings featuring green Granny Smith apples. I found when I started working with them I couldn't make up my mind which pose to paint so I'll paint a bunch of them! :)

Funny, out of all the paintings I'm doing recently this one was the one I thought would be a breeze! HA. Not so. It was probably the most difficult.

Did you know a little over a hundred years ago there were 1100 varieties of apples in this country? I was shocked to learn that fact recently. There are appoximately 130 heritage apples left growing in the U.S. while just a handful (literally) are sold in our local groceries. What a shame and how did that happen?
