At The Feeder

A beautiful male hummingbird perches at "his" feeder. Hummingbirds are very territorial when it comes to their feeders and will chase other hummingbirds away. Some will even perch close by to guard it.

Painted in oil on a stretched 6" x 6" canvas. The sides are painted, though framing would provide a more finished look.

This sweet painting is just finished and will be ready to ship on Sat. Oct. 8, to give it time to dry properly. Reserve it today by clicking the paypal button below!!

Sky Watch Wave

I took this photo last night. I picked it for SkyWatch Friday because it looks like waves rolling in. The light was what caught my attention in the first place. That and the awesome color. This one is worth a double click!

Hummingbird Close Up

We've had the fortunate experience of watching hummingbirds this summer from our dining room table. These tiny birds are amazing! I recently read a post from someone in Texas who went through hurricane Ike and reported that during 70 mph winds the hummingbirds were coming to the feeder and having their meal. They are tough little birds! They are also fun to watch.

SkyWatch Friday

I really love how the clouds do their own dance so to speak in this evenings display. The differing colors and shapes made for a "wow" sky shot. I knew this would be my offering the minute I saw it!

Joy Catcher

"Joy Catcher" 20 x 20 Oil on Canvas: Sold

This one is named "Joy Catcher". It started out as bird catcher (sounds mean) Parakeet Palette (didn't represent the whole color wheel), but as I rounded the corner and came real close to finishing the name Joy Catcher stuck. I LOVE Budgies. They really are so joyful, playful and fun. I love their chatter and interaction with each other and I wanted to capture their colorful character along with their outer color.

What's That In The Sky......?

Well it's not a bird or a plane. I don't think. For my SkyWatch Friday posting this week, I'm offering up this interesting cloud. This showed up last weekend over the lake and at the time I took the photo I wasn't aware how strange it looked. It wasn't until I looked at the photos that I noticed how other worldly it seemed.

Mary's Lazy Garden

I started my flower garden this year from seed.
In February I was planting and nurturing lots of little seeds in the hopes of having a colorful and abundant flower garden this year. Correction: Gardens with an "s".

Most of the seedlings did pretty good I thought and in the spring I was ready with my first batch of plants. I started another seedling lot inside and well into summer I planted more.

To make a long story short, what promised to be a multi-colorful garden full of a variety of beautiful flowers turned out to be a very very thin assortment of mostly pink flowers, many that like to lie on the ground. These pretty flowers were the exception. These little paintings are ACEO's and are 2.5" x 3.5" each.

SkyWatch Friday

Wow this week went fast. I mark it now by when it's time to think about SkyWatch Friday. We're currently under what's left of hurricane Gustav so things are very gray and very wet. This posting is from a rainy July evening.

Big and Little

We've had the pleasure of seeing the largest and smallest creatures recently. I saw my first eagle two weeks ago. Twice actually but I didn't have a camera on me at the time.

This beautiful creature (Blue Heron) has been coming to our yard every day for the past few weeks and fishing for his/her lunch. Rain or shine. These photos show him in both kinds of weather and the beauty of him in flight. (photos by Ron Hughes)

72 days ago a turtle layed her eggs (7-8 of them) and we've been watching closely to see the little ones come out of the ground to make their way to the lake. Yesterday we saw evidence that one did and today my husband Ron was able to be on the spot when another came to the surface. The little guys eyes were still closed as he came out of the sand. We stopped him for just a moment for a photo op and then watched through binocculars as he made the long (for such a tiny creature) trek to the lake.
